Seminar on International Financial Reporting Standards – 2012 Update

In pursuance of continued efforts to create the appropriate opportunity for its members and other professionals in accounting and finance to upgrade their working knowledge on the Financial Reporting Standards, the Institute of Chartered Accountants-Ghana is organising a two-day workshop for its members, students and the general public on INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL REPORTING STANDARDS – 2012 UPDATE.

At the end of the workshop, participants are expected to have acquired/gained better working knowledge in the following areas:

  • Explain the proper accounting treatment for acquisition of property, plant and equipment (and other associated cost) under IFRS
  • Calculate depreciation using the methods permitted under IAS 16
  • Distinguish between the ‘cost’ and ‘revaluation’ accounting models (as described in IAS 16)
  • Determine whether an arrangement contains a lease, distinguish between finance and operating lease and Understand sale and leaseback arrangements
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the significant judgements that are required in accounting for borrowing costs
  • Understand the definition of Provisions, Contingent Liabilities and Contingent Assets in a financial statement
  • Define intangible assets, deal with its initial recognition, measurement and disclosures in the financial statements
  • Examine and assess how foreign currency financial statements are translated for consolidation purposes and understand disclosure requirements for the noted to financial statements

  • IAS 21 – The Effects of Changes in Foreign Exchange Rates
  • IAS 23 – Borrowing Cost
